Stick to your Goals                                       

       Welcome to 2012! Have you thought about what your resolution for this year will be? Whether your goals are losing weight, finding a new job, or going back to school, make this year the year of accomplishments! Most people start off great, they follow a routine and make a little progress, but by May you may start to feel your efforts were in vain. Chances are, you get discouraged. Research shows the best way to stick to a plan all year long is to buddy up. Having a buddy to relate to and fall back on will provide the accountability you need to stay strong. Go over every detail with your buddy and provide a time line. This way, they know where you should be in your plan, incase you get off track. Have your buddy remind you about your goals constantly and why you have your plan in the first place. Thinking about how accomplished you will feel by the end of the year will give you the motivation to keep going. Sometimes it's better to have more than one buddy. Join a group or use your family. People you see most often and who will provide the most support are best.

Recipe of the Month: Chicken, Cheese, and Wine Dinner

Ingredients

  • 6 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 (6 ounce) can mushrooms
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup white wine
  • 2 cups shredded old Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

Directions

  1. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Layer the chicken breast halves into the bottom of a baking dish. Stir the cream of mushroom soup, mushrooms, garlic, curry powder, salt, and black pepper together in a bowl until mixed. Add the white wine to the soup mixture and stir until smooth; pour over the chicken breast halves. Sprinkle the Cheddar cheese and paprika over the mixture.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until the chicken is no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, about 90 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of a chicken breast should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).

Weight Loss Tip #58

 Buy a pedometer and clip it to your belt. On average, sedentary people take only 2,000 to 3,000 steps a day. Adding 2,000 steps will help you maintain your current weight and stop gaining weight. Aim for an extra 1000 steps a day to start.
