Is a facial peel designed to reduce the appearance of adult wrinkles, sun damaged skin, acne blemishes, and to remove pre-cancerous skin growths or to soften acne facial scars. Chemical peel concentrations vary and are selected based on the skin condition.
What is a Skin Medica Chemical Peel?
Chemical peel is a general classification for a number of chemical treatments used to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin. Typically during a chemical peel nothing actually peels off. A chemical solution is applied to the skin, and works by dissolving the upper layers of the skin. As the tissue is dissolved, a wound is created on the skin which stimulates the body's healing response, causing new tissue to emerge. The depth and strength of the Skin Medica skin peel is chosen specifically for you based on your skin condition, concerns and treatment goals. Anti-oxidants and serums are then applied on top of the peel to increase the chemical action penetration.
Candidates for Skin Medica Chemical Peels
Almost everyone can benefit from a single or a series of Skin Medica skin chemical peels. Peels are often used to treat fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth. Wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging can often be reduced or even eliminated with this procedure.
Sagging and more severe wrinkling does not respond as well and would most likely benefit more from other cosmetic procedures such as Botox, Juvederm, Radiesse, Thermage, and Fraxel as well as cosmetic surgery.
Mild scarring and certain types of acne can also be treated with chemical peels. In addition, pigmentation of the skin in the form of sun spots, age spots, liver spots, freckles, splotching due to taking birth control pills, and skin that is dull in texture and color may be improved with chemical peeling.

How it works
During the procedure, the chemical solution is applied to the affected area (usually over the entire face, neck and/or chest). The chemical agents then work to separate and peel the outer surface layers of the skin. These layers often contain dead skin, which is removed during the process. The chemical agents stimulate the generation of new skin cells through the healing process. Specific anti-oxidants and other serums are then applied to increase the action and deepen the penetration of the peel. An eye treatment and a peptide lip treatment are then applied, followed by a re-balancing cream and an SPF for sun protection.
